What is Kyphoplasty?

Kyphoplasty is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat a spinal compression fracture. During the procedure, your doctor inserts a balloon into the fractured vertebra and inflates it to create space, which is then filled with bone cement. It’s primarily used to treat compression fractures caused by osteoporosis. Benefits can include pain relief, restored vertebral height, and improved spinal positioning. As with any procedure, there are risks, including infection, bleeding, increased back pain, or cement leaking into surrounding areas. Most patients go home the same day, with full recovery taking around six weeks. The goal is to relieve your pain, restore proper spinal alignment, and improve your quality of life.
